We went in costume, of course (my Young Man does look rather good in a bowler hat!), and as we walked up towards the Castle, we could hear drumming.
The party itself was by invitation, mainly the various shopkeepers (and their staff) in town. I didn't see anyone else from the Cinema - but they may have been down at the Pagan bonfire at the Globe!
The bonfire was a bit slow in getting started (but it was huge!), and the fireworks were very good - I'm told they could be seen in Clyro. The spooky lights up the ruined tower were also much appreciated.
The Hay Castle Trust are hopeful that this is the first of many events to be held at the Castle. We certainly had fun, and chatted to several interesting people.

Shame though, as apparently the 'Hay Castle Trust' purchased the castle 'for the town', that, rather than just shop keepers and staff, the bonfire and fireworks weren't open to
everyone that lives in Hay on Wye. There may be lots of events in the future, but obviously for the select chosen crowd!

Glad you and your beloved had such a good time. Unfortunately when we rolled up at 7-15 scheduled 7-30 start we had to face the news that the fireworks had already been let off. We were invited to look at the binfire and buy a jacket potato- not much consolation to a 10 year old child - and too late to take him to Clyro. If you advertise 7.30 you should stick to it and not invent some lame excuse about weather conditions which stayed the same all evening
I was told that the invitations were limited to shopkeepers and staff because they didn't have a license for a public event.
