Fresh Voices for Hay

Electioneering is beginning now (only a little while to go!).
I saw some leaflets in the Wholefood shop, and they're also being pushed through letterboxes across Hay.
Eight of the nine new candidates have got together to produce a flyer with their pictures on it, and a brief description of who they are and what they want for Hay. Looking at the pictures, I know more of them than I thought I did!
Ros Garratt is on the flyer, and has also produced her own postcard sized leaflet - which even has a bit of Welsh on it (my Welsh isn't up to much, but I think it's something about writing to you in Welsh?)
Karen Clare wants to improve the quality of life and support local businesses.
Sue Campbell-Felgate wants a Council that listens to the people, and a Community Plan.
Richard Evans wants to care for all the things that make Hay such a special place.
Ros Garratt wants to provide for the young and keep our community assets in public ownership.
Rodney Mace wants to work with young people and improve the public toilets - he wants special parking rates for residents, too.
Rhona Muirhead wants affordable housing and residents' parking, and to tackle child poverty.
David Penrose wants a Community Plan and a new school, but also to protect the sports facilities.
Liz Singh wants to help young people and preserve the local economy.

Don't forget the meeting on Wednesday at 7pm at the Parish Hall - all the candidates have been invited!

maybe 3 of them should try running for their respective parish councils of cusop/clyro and clifford ..just a thought if they have so much interest in serving the community in which they live !!!

They are all so vague - 'improve quality of life', 'care for all the things that make Hay such a special place', 'provide for the young', 'tackle child poverty' etc. At the end of the day whoever gets elected, I still won't find anywhere in Hay more affordable to rent, I'll never be able to buy a house, my council tax will continue to go up whilst services get worse, and life will get harder and harder for independent businesses in the town.

If anyone can make Hay more affordable to live, work and play in then I'll listen, but they'd have to show their working before getting a vote.

Oh for heaven's sake, who cares where these candidates live or how long they've been here. If they care enough to stand up and volunteer to work for the community then good on them. They don't deserve to be sneered at just because they only use Hay for work and shopping and medical care and solicitors and banks...but actually sleep a couple of miles out from the Clock Tower.

thats the issue ..they do not care ..they care about self interest , they do not live in Hay community , all they care about is their own self interest..amazin how 8 Independent candidates get on 1 leaflet..just got 1 thru the post 2day from a certain Ellie Spencer..never met her no idea who she is but she speaks more on my level that the crap ive read so far ..p.s its not voluntary they do get paid ..get yer facts right..oh an p.p.s people in gyspy caste /wyeside the biggest housing in hay of REAL hay people do care..unlike yourself

Johnny Kramer stated that being a town councillor is a voluntary position, which is what I reported. He never said anything about pay.
And if "REAL hay people do care" why are they not standing for the council themselves?

Town Councillors are NOT paid. Full Stop. They can claim expenses to help with the costs of carrying out their duties but they do not get any sort of salary or wages. Perhaps the previous poster is confusing Town Councillors with employees of Powys County Council? Totally different.
