Flowers by the River


Some of my favourite flowers down on the Riverside Path. I think they're a garden escape called Snowflake.

Yes indeed "Summer Snowflake". Leucojum aestivum. These ones are garden escapes but there is a subspecies that is native near the Thames at Reading and the Shannon in Ireland. The garden subspecies comes from southern Europe and tends to flower earlier but even the native is hardly a "Summer" plant!
